Rhytismataceae on Juniperus sabina
Mathias Hass, 26-04-2024 10:07
Mathias HassHello,

Does anyone know what this is?

Found on Juniperus sabina, urban graveyard, Copenhagen, Denmark, march 12

Ascomata: on leaves, on dead attached branch. Closed and immature when found. Incubated for a week or two.
Hymenium: whitish to leather brown.
Asci: 8-spored, up to 108 x 8,5 my, spores arranged in parallel
Spores: 49,5 (41,2-58,9) x 1,8 (1,5-2,1) my, Q=28,5 (n=16), with a 2 my thick gelatinous sheet, and a greyish lump at the apical end, not extending much the overall gelatinous sheet, but diffracting light differently.
Paraphyses: filiform, unbranched, slightly broader at the tip, 2,5 my broad, without curled tips.
Peridium: about 45 my thick, with roundish dark cells.

I'm wondering whether this is Lophodermium juniperinum or something else?

Thank you in advance,

Mathias

Dear Mathias,

Also, try to check Diaporthe juniperovora.

Should be a Lophodermium.
