Hello,
Found by Laurens van der Linde, March 2024 on solidago.
Is this Anthostomella tomicoides?
I used the key (1-2-17-22-23) in "Francis S.M. (1975). Anthostomella Sacc. (part I). Mycol. Pap. 139: 1-79"
- spores two celled
- spores 14-19 x 5-8 µm, strongly inequilateral
Greetings, Riet

Re : Anthostomella tomicoides? on solidago
Hi Riet,
yes, very likely A. tomicoides. If so, you should find a short germ slit on the dorsal side, often best seen in KOH or Melzer's reagent.
Cheers,
Jacques.

Re : Anthostomella tomicoides? on solidago
yes, typical.
Hunting germ slits may proove challenging, especially when spores preferably lay in side view because they are laterally flattened. Otherwise, it would be too easy!
Cheers,
Jacques
