Dear all, I'm looking for material from the USA of
Pilobolus

On poultry droppings mixed with plant debris
I am interested in Zygomycèta which seems to be a Pilobolus in development. The round spores would give the possibility of P. lentiger or P oedipus.
Am I right and what are the differences between the 2 species?
Regards
Thierry

Re : Pilobolus
Bonjour.

Michel.

Re : Pilobolus
I am with Michel and would call this lentiger. I have found oedipus on quite a few occasions and the big difference between that and lentiger (other than the thick wall) is the variation in size of the spores. P lentiger tends to have spores with a range of sizes whereas with oedipus they are a more uniform size.

Re : Pilobolus
Thank you Michel and Mal for the additional information provided.
The difference in spore size in lentiger is indeed clearly visible in my photo.
I still note that this harvest is quite unique on litter made from poultry droppings.

Re : Pilobolus
The only time I found P lentiger it was on unknown but probably bird dung.

Re : Pilobolus
Hello everyone,
Who could provide me with a key to the Pilobolus in which P.lentiger appears?
Thanks in advance.
