Thank you Zotto :) A user from iNaturalist (Igor Khomenko) confirms this, and another from the Ascomycetes of the World FB Group (Adam Polhorský) also mentions that the Pseudospiropes anamorph is visible in one of the macro photos.  At last, I have good cause to use Dr. Iturriaga's key.

At the time of writing, MycoPortal contains a single record from 1934 of this genus from the state of Louisiana.  We are finding a lot of cases like this in terms of reported vs. actual discomycete diversity in the Gulf coast area.
