?Eutypella on Alnus
Juuso Äikäs, 20-11-2023 15:49
A couple days ago I found some black stromata growing on thin branches attached to a fallen Alnus tree. There appears to be some yellow pigment inside the stromata.

The asci are pedicellate and 8-spored, IKI negative.

Spore measurements:

5.5 - 7.3 × 1.8 - 2.2 µm, Q = 2.6 - 4.2 ; Avg = 6.4 × 2.0 µm, Qav = 3.2 ; N = 10

I was thinking of Eutypella cerviculata, which I believe at least mostly grows on Alnus. However, these fruitbodies don't have the long necks as seen in many photos. Rather, they are just short stubs. Also, not sure about the yellow pigment.

Any idea what this is?

Hello,
perhaps Eutypa flavovirens?

Yes, this sounds like a good suggestion. The inside of the fruitbodies looked greenish yellow in situ ("flavovirens"). Thank you!
