Another Helotiales - from Salzburg Austria

Here is a Helotiale fungi found at Werfen/Salzburg Austria on a playground maintained by the town. It was next to a concrete bench on the ground in grasses. Some of the soil that I took with me showed a massive net of fine roots and one little piece of a seed. I looked for sclerotians but did not find any. It was a pretty barren but grassy site, some unknown shrubs to the side. It is possible that the soil was brought in when the playground was built. I do not know.

Someone advised me to look and see if the spores in the ascos have different sizes. And from my pictures I can say that this is good observation. 4 larger and 4 smaller spores. I see 2 nuclei.
Spores are ellipsoid to fusiform.
I observed something simliar to secondary spores. Per chance I saw that Schroeteria have similar structures. Sorry, but this is beyond me.


I put together a "data sheet" including spore measurements. I will include further pictures and do still have 2 specimens that I should be able to do more microscopy on if someone will tell me what is necessaary.

I also cannot tell. S. trifoliorum would be a possibility, then the large spores whould have 4 nuclei.

The apo with very long stalk could be a different species? Or did you see the same microscopy?

Schroeteria has much bigger oil drops in the spores.

Follow up Another Helotiales - from Salzburg Austria
I set up a better microscope and tried again. The spores are quite variable, they "sprout", they have multi drops, so not just 4 nuclei.
I don't think we can identify this one. I would like to put it in the data bank as "spec".
What would be the proper genus? Sclerotinia or Ciboria?

And I only collected one Asco that day. So the likelyhood of it being "polluted" should be minimal.

Would be the best. In that overmature stage it is difficult to make an ID.
