Literature (Durieu)
Viktorie Halasu, 11-06-2023 10:45
Viktorie HalasuHello,

would anyone know, if the second (presumably) volume of "Exploration scientifique de l'Algérie, Botanique" is available online somewhere? I'm looking for the one containing descriptions of Peziza spp. So far I found only the first volume of descriptions (rusts and fungi imperfecti) and the one with all illustrations here: https://bibdigital.rjb.csic.es/records/item/12935-redirection

Thanks a lot in advance.

Dear Viktorie,

in Stafleu you will find attached note.

Maybe you will find the descriptions there.

regards

Martin

According to Stafleu the pages  (601- ) missing in the copy of the volume in your link and containing the desired descriptions were printed years later (1869) together with pages of the Atlas.

The last plate refered to on p. 600 is 27. The Pezizas start with pl. 28.

Re : Literature (Durieu)
Most of the descriptions of new fungi in Durieu are just the plate with their 2-rows explanation in the Atlas, no other text has been published.

If I remember correctly, Peziza (s.l.) are only in Tab. 27 and 28.

In the Real Jardin Botanico copy the quality of the scan is high, but the first pages of the Atlas with text are missing. See "explication des figures" on this copy on GoogleBooks:

https://www.google.it/books/edition/Exploration_Scientifique_De_L_Alg%C3%A9rie_S/sFJBAAAAcAAJ?hl=it&gbpv=1&dq=bibliogroup:%22Exploration+Scientifique+De+L%27Alg%C3%A9rie.+Sciences+Naturelles.+Botanique%22&printsec=frontcover

In 1997 I was interested in the original description of Helvella helvellula, and I had to ask to New York Botanical Garden to pull up the book, take a photograph and send it to me... I received a colour slide, and paid 30 $.

It seems a century ago... Now we can have immediatly online beautiful scans with no cost.

Rergards

Re : Literature (Durieu)
There exists a copy at the University Rome containing p. 601-616:

Still no Pezizas there. It seems to be the proof reading copy of Camille Montagne. Several pages show his signature. Since he died in 1866, these pages must have been printed before.

I doubt that the remainig pages 617-632 were ever printed. When we search for one of the fungi that must have been descripted there as Patellaria microsticta, we find in Saccardo's Sylloge 8 (1889) 802 a quote of the plate only and the comment "absque diagnosi" (without diagnosis).
