... on naked red soil under Ceratonia, Olea and other mediterranean bushes, near Tor (Algarve). It does not seem to be an alga - the contents in the cells are too small to be plastids. The filaments are without septa and branching dichotomously. One of my thoughs is a possible Glomeromycota but am quite helpless. Who can help?Yours, Lothar

thanks for your proposal. But - I do not think so, at least not T. aurea. The filaments look different and have septa and larger inclusions.

Could this be perhaps a xanthophycaeous alga, like a Vaucheria?
at least I have a feeling that it may grow also on naked soil and it is one of few "macroscopic algae" with discernable filaments
