Little asco accompanying Cal. citrina
Zuzana Sochorová (Egertová), 15-09-2022 06:57
Zuzana Sochorová (Egertová)Hello,
please, what could be this little asco accompanying Calycina citrina on a fallen branch of Salix? Moravia, 250 m a.s.l.
Apothecia max. 0.25 mm, convex, hyaline, sessile.
Asci 30- 33(40) × 6.5-7.6 µm, with croziers, IKI bb, many of them with a Psilachnum-guttule
Ascospores (7.3)7.8-9.9(10.2) × 2.1-2.6 µm, Q = (3)3.4-4.4(4.7). Me = 9.1 × 2.3 µm; Qe = 3.9, OCl = 0-0.5
Thank you, Zuzana

Re : Little asco accompanying Cal. citrina
Hello Zuzana,
I do not know the species (nor the genus), but what I find notable is the presence of a "Psilachnum drop" in the asci. Surely Zotto will say more.
Yours, Lothar

Re : Little asco accompanying Cal. citrina
Hi Suzana,
Indeed, the ascus guttule and spore shape could match a Psilachnum
Could you show paraphyses ? are they lanceolate,  with VBs ?

Amitiés
Michel

Re : Little asco accompanying Cal. citrina
Hi Lothar and Michel,

thank you for your comments.

The guttule also attracted my attention, but wood is a strange substrate for this genus, isn´t it? I was searching also in related genera, but found nothing which would fit well.

I will add photos of paraphyses in the evening or tomorrow (I am at work).

Spore shape would also match a Psilachnum actually. But there are no hairs, are there? Wood is not impossible for the genus, long ago I made collections on coniferous wood, but they had hairy apos. The contents of the paraphyses would be interesting indeed.

Re : Little asco accompanying Cal. citrina
Here are two (not very nice) photos of paraphyses. They are hyaline, straight, without VBs, having a rounded apex, apex is 2.2-2.7 micrometers broad.
And one biguttule ascus as a bonus :-)

Re : Little asco accompanying Cal. citrina
On a grass I would have suggested "Helotium" microspis, a difficult complex which is in my Calycellina folder.

Thank you Zotto, it really looks similar.
