Ombrophila from Norway
Lothar Krieglsteiner, 05-08-2022 13:58
Lothar Krieglsteineron decorticated branch of surely Betula (as there were no other bushes in the vicinity) inundated in small  rivulet throgh boggy fjell (above the tree line), NP Lomsdal-Visten near Trofors, 30.6.22.

The spores I measured about 15-20/7-8 µm, and over-ripe spores seemed to become brownish and septate (Foto 24). One ascus I measured 120/14, and I found no croziers, the apex is euamyloid.

Foto 1-3 directly at findplace, "out of the water", 4-6 under bino in studio, 7-8 dried to some extent, 9-11 sections that show textura globulosa (12-13), ending in clavate cells at margo (fotos 14-16). Asci and spores 17-20, paraphyses 21, ascus in IKI 22-23

Does somebody have a hint to a species? I know Ombrophila is very rich in undescribed forms ...

Yours, Lothar

Re : Ombrophila from Norway
Interesting species. Did you study dead asci for the apical ring shape?

I see no gel, and also the other features exclude an Ombrophila or Gelatinodiscaceae.

Re : no Ombrophila from Norway
Hello Zotto,
thanks for your response. O.k. - no Ombrophila. I was mislead because of the ecology.
I will try to study dead asci when I go to the specimen again.
Yours, Lothar

Hi
I have no idea what it could be but when I saw your photos, I associated the mushroom with immature Adelphella.
Maybe try in this direction?

Re : Ombrophila from Norway
Helllo Mirek,
thanks for your tip - but: the apothecia are very much smaller (only about 1 mm), and more important: did you see the stained ascus pore in the last fotos? My specimen is inoperculate.
Yours, Lothar

Re : Ombrophila from Norway
Hi Lothar
I use Lugol and I have never encountered a positive reaction. Is it always so, I'm not entirely sure.

You read: Pfister, the psilopezioid fungi. IV. The Genus Pachyella (Pezizales)?

I saw very bright fruiting bodies of this species but I'm not saying that this is Adelphella babingtonii, maybe a different species?
Regards

Mirek

Re : Ombrophila from Norway
As I wrote, my specimen is inoperculate, with an eu-amyloid apical pore (see the last pictures).

Re : Ombrophila from Norway
As I mentioned earlier, it was just an association.
Some details do not suit me either.

Have a nice day.
