Strossmayeria perhaps?
Ethan Crenson, 04-07-2022 23:00
Hello all,

I was hoping to get an opinion on these waxy, tiny discos found yesterday in New York City on hardwood.

Less than 1mm in diameter, waxy, starting white/translucent, after some time in the moist chamber they are darkening.

Asci IKI-, 112-144 x 11-12.5µm.  Spores—it was difficult to find frees spores in my mounts and my spore drop was rather sparse.  Free spores in water measured 23-25.5 x 3-4µm, hyaline, guttulate, 3-5 septate.  However, many of the spores in ascus in Lugol's are 7-septate and up to 36µm long.

These apothecia were growing with a dense brown anamorph, and I am wondering if they are related. Conidia are brown, multi-septate, ellipsoid with somewhat acute ends (American football shaped) thick walled, up to 7-septate.

Is this Strossmayeria basitricha perhaps?

Thanks in advance,

Ethan

Re : Strossmayeria perhaps?
Hallo Ethan,

I would defenitely say Strossmayeria, for a narrower search see Iturriaga Mycotaxon 20(1) 169-184 and Mycotaxon 36 (2) 383-454

cheers,

Stip
