There are also no hyphae to be seen on the leafs, so I guess you are right. Does anyone have any idea what insect the eggs came from?

I see these eggs on bryophytes a lot. One of the key features separating them from Octosporella / Bryocentria, which is what they look similar to, is that the ends of the hairs are always inflated on the eggs and never in these fungi.
