Bryophilous fungus on Lophocolea bidentata
Mario Schanz, 04-04-2022 21:01
Hello together,

does anyone have an idea what this orange fungus on the liverwort Lophocolea bidentata could be?

Place of discovery: Bayreuth, Germany

Thank you very much,

Mario Schanz

Re : Eggs (not fungus) on Lophocolea bidentata
There are also no hyphae to be seen on the leafs, so I guess you are right. Does anyone have any idea what insect the eggs came from?

Re : Bryophilous fungus on Lophocolea bidentata
I see these eggs on bryophytes a lot. One of the key features separating them from Octosporella / Bryocentria, which is what they look similar to, is that the ends of the hairs are always inflated on the eggs and never in these fungi.
