On Arbutus unedo

Enrique RubioDo you have any ideas about these small synnemata growing on Arbutus unedo wood? The fertile region of the apices seems to have a thin mucilaginous covering.
Thanks again

Hi Enrique

What a nice little fungus, your post deserves a reply even though I can't be of much help. It seems most similar to Morrisographium but there do not seem to be any species that match yours, and the pictures I have seen have a darker stipe and paler spore mass. It would be worth sending to Keith Seifert for his comments, I think he would be interested.

Good luck and best wishes

Paul

Re : On Arbutus unedo
Thanks for your answer Paul.
Don't you think it is possible that it could be an Atractium?

Re : On Arbutus unedo
You could well be right, I was thinking of Atractium in its incorrect sense as a synonym of Fusarium. It is possible that you have A. lusitanicum, but I can't find any description of this species and it could be a Fusarium; the suggestion is only due to geographical proximity. If I can get a scan of the description, I'll send it on to you.

Best wishes again

Re : On Arbutus unedo
With the help of the librarian at CABI, bless her, I found the description of Atractium lusitanicum. It was described as a culture contaminant so most probably has nothing to do with your species. I fear yours is undescribed...

Best wishes

Thank you, Paul. I had tried to get that description but was unsuccessful.
