ascomata with dark hymenium and red-brown excipulum?
François Bartholomeeusen, 21-10-2021 15:44
Dear forum members,

On a rotten piece of wood I found among several fruiting bodies of Mollisia melaleuca other ascomata of which the hymenium is blue-black and the excipulum red-brown.
Plenty of paraphyses and only a few asci. 12 days after the find still few asci and mature spores;
- Diameter ascomata < 1.5 mm;
- Spores: ellipsoid with two drops: 8.4 - 10.5 × 4.3 - 5.2 µm, Q = 1.9 - 2.4;
- Asci: clavate, with croziers, IKI (+/- no reaction) in Melzer + (blue): 120 x 7.7 µm;
- Paraphyses: hyaline with dark top, filiform, apex round and a bit swollen, longer than asci;
- Textura globulosa and ectal excipulum more hyaline and textura intricata.

Macroscopically similar to Pattelariopsis atrovinosa but the spores are different.
Who can help me with the identification?

Thank you very much in advance,

François Bartholomeeusen

Hello,
compare with Ascocoryne lilacina.

Yes, this is the solution. But IKI gives the reaction also. Perhaps the reagent is too old? Previously called Ombrophila lilacina.

Good evening Viktorie and Zotto,

During my search, I saw a picture of fully-grown Ascocoryne lilacina, but it differed so much from my find that I ignored it.
Thank you very much for your quick reply!

Kind Regards,

François

You have the form with an olive disc. Usually O. lilacina has a lilaceous disc but it seems the olive pigment that occurs in the VBs in some samples has no relevance.
