A few days ago I found these small whitish discs with small stalks on a dead Quercus twig.
Spores are 1-septate: 9,0-11,0 x 2,5-3,2 µm.
See the pictures for some other details.
I looked around a bit, but I cannot find a right genus yet.
Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Hi William,
try Calycina. Calycina herbarum is frequent on Urtica, but spores in your collection are somewhat smaller for this species than they should be. What about oil content of the ascospores? And reaction of asci in IKI?

Thank you very much for your reply!
I looked at Calycina, but from what I saw those have spores with quite some oil content, which these spores have not, at least as it seems.
For the reaction with Melzers reagens, see the following pictures. Asci turn up yellow with a small blue apical tip and are inoperculate, so Heliotales is probably right?

What about the substrate being a Carpinus twig? Then the species would be Calycina italica. Common and abundant on Quercus and Carpinus twigs, at least in certain years (usually corticated, but also on wood as here). The spores fit perfectly. Distinctly refractive VBs are absent from the paraphyses in this species.

You're completely right. Now that I look at it again, it's clearly a wooden twig, and it was in a small forest of Quercus trees. So it is indeed a Quercus twig, it was lying on the ground between Urtica plants. I apparently messed it up with another finding of whitish discs on Urtica material.
My apologies..
So, Calycina italica, a species not yet known from The Netherlands.
Can I do some follow up research to make it a 100% sure?
Or are you already as sure as you can be?

Another measurement of the ascospores: 8,8-10,5 x 2,4-3,0 µm

There is no doubt, it looks perfect. Asci should have croziers, this you could try to verify.
Did you look at a cross-break of the wood? Quercus must have large pores, carpinus not.

I'll have a look at the wood, but I don't want to mess up the material, because it's a new species for the Netherlands and someone else will probably have a look at it.
I'll give it a try and I can also visit the place of my finding to see if there are also Carpinus trees.

Yes, this is an odd taxonomic opinion by Dennis 1971, overruled by modern concepts also supported by DNA.
