chlamydospores of Fusarium heterosporium?
François Bartholomeeusen, 05-10-2021 17:31
A friend of mine found on Glyceria fluitans a pink sporodochia of which the conidia (photo A1, A2) measure: Me = 32.8 × 4.2 µm ; Qe = 7.1. This is clearly Fusarium heterosporium.

In the white core I found conidia (photo B1, B2) with following dimensions 7.5 - 10.1 × 4.2 - 5.3 µm; Q = 1.6 - 2 ; Me = 8.6 × 4.8 µm ; Qe = 1.8. Are these chlamydospores? Does anyone have experience with this?

Thank you for any additional information,

François Bartholomeeusen

Re : chlamydospores of Fusarium heterosporium?
Hello François,
According to Leslie et al, Fusarium heterosporum does not produce chlamydospores or microconidia.
According to Nelson, Tousson & Marasas, Fusarium heterosporum does not produce micronidia, Chlamydospores are present in chains.
In neither case is it like your sample.
The elliptical conidia in your sample should be something other than Fusarium sp.

Hi Angel,

Thank you very much for the information. At this time, I will classify this find as "UFO" unidentified fungal object!

Greetings,

François
