Cytospora or ...?
Sergey Markov, 25-04-2021 21:48
I found today a small pyreno on Betula pendula, on a fallen branch. This fungus may be a host for yellow-colored Tremella sp. Perithecia are in bundles of 3...8 pieces in each ascostromata, irregularily arranged. Ascostromata are immersed in the bark.

Ascospores hyaline, allantoid, non-septate, single-celled, measurement on the photo.

Asci IKI-, hyaline, almost invisible in MLZ and Congo/SDS.

I myself have not been able to identify the species. I only suggested the genus as Cytospora(Leucostoma?). Please help.

Hallo Sergey,

It looks like Leucostoma niveum. Asci mosty 8 -spored, rarely 4-spored; spores 12-17 × 2-4 mictometers.

Re : Cytospora or ...?
Thank Yoy very much, Dimitar. It fits not bad and was reported from Betula sp. Also it was reported in conjunction with Peniophora sp. and Peniophora is a host for Tremella mesenterica.
