Could this be dried fruitbodies of Ascobolus albidus?
Found on horse dung in Uppsala, Sweden. Spores 24-30 x 12-14.
Fruitbodies very small, around 0,2 mm, in large numbers and mostly violet but sometimes like thin, pale "sticks".
Best regards
Karl

Re : Ascobolus albidus?

Hello Karl!
Have you thought, for simple verification, to compare with roseopurpuracens, sometimes these species are close.
Michel.

Re : Ascobolus albidus?
Hello Michel!
I have also thought about A. roseopurpurascens. Some say that it is only found on deer dung. In the keys I have checked the width of the asci seem to be a separating character, but different sources show different information... Do you know any good sources for separating the two?
Karl

Re : Ascobolus albidus?
Roseopurpuracens can be found on substrates other than deer droppings. I think the presence of purple pigment in the exipulum and at the top of the paraphyses is a good trait, as well as the well marked margin on the apothecia.
Michel.
