White discomycete on Alnus cones
Khomenko Igor, 21-01-2021 03:47
Khomenko IgorHi,

I found this small white discomycete on Alnus incana cones on the ground.

Pictures are here: https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/59289600

Apothecia 0.5-0.6mm, some with a long stipe.
Asci 8-spored, IKI+r or IKI+b after KOH, croziers(+), 90-118x9-11um.
Ascospores biguttulate, measure
(15) 15.5 - 18 (18.9) × (4) 4.2 - 4.7 (5.1) µm
Q = (3.3) 3.4 - 4.2 (4.4) ; N = 31
Me = 16.7 × 4.4 µm ; Qe = 3.8
Paraphyses with long, cylindrical VBs.

I presumed it could be Pezizella/Calycellina alniella, but the spores size and shape, IKI reaction and some other thing do not look right and I run out of ideas.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,
Igor

Re : White discomycete on Alnus cones
Hi Igor

it took a while until I realized the apical ring of Pezicula-type. This is an Allophylaria (close to Calycina), and it comes close to a sample on twig of ?Pistacia lentiscus by Ruben Martinez-Gil posted in 2017.

But i think the spore ends are too acute in your sample.

In my Allophylaria folder it is called "woody"

Thank you Zotto for all your help. Indeed, it looks very similar to the other members of this genus.
