Apothecia up to 0,5 mm, on decayed wood of Populus tremula in Central Norway. Asci with croziers (I think?), 35-40 x 4-6 microns, IKI+ (dark brownish, it appears, at the extreme tip, in Baral'sche). Spores assymmetrically ellipsoid, 7-9 x 2-3 microns. Paraphyses broadly lanceolate, up to 4 microns broad. All measures in water. Hairs short, with one (or more) septum, incrusted in the upper part (cell). Excipulum textura intricata/porrecta.
I would say we are in Cistella, and it resembles C. citrina macroscopically, but microscopically (e.g. spore size) does not fit. I believe C. cirtina also grwos exclusively on conifers?

I wrote something on this but it got lost. I asked how certain the substrate is. Because your fungus reminds me of Cistella improvisa, which is only known from conifer wood.

Is it possible to say anything about the substrate from these wood anatomy images? (All longitudinal except the last, which is trans-sectional (sort-of). I am not good at wood anatomy.

By the way - when the apothecia now are dry, I notice that they are shortly, but distinctly stipitate.

Short stipe may be possible.
Substrate: is the wood so rotten? In cross section wven with a strong handlens it would be possible to deecide. But I suppose angiosperm wood from your pics.

yes of course, the cross section clearly shows large pores, and this could e Populus. That some of the pores are aranged in radial rows of 3 is a bit unusual for Populus.
I now realized your statement about Cistella citrina. Actually, I have this taxon in my database as possible synonym of C. improvisa. What R. Labbe identified as C. citrina from America was also on Populus! He states that the type of citria was on Picea.

Thanks a lot. I have checked with the collectors and there were no conifer trees near the collection site. So I think we can conclude that the substrate is an angiosperm tree, probably Populus tremula. The question is then if the identity should be Cistella improvisa (perhaps with a cf.). No occurences in GBIF, by the way.

C. improvisa (if this name is correctly applied - needs type study probably) seems rarely collected, and it can well be that it is not restricted to conifers.
