This very small (ca. 1 mm when disck is open), beautiful hyaloscyphaceous discomycete was growing on Populus tremula wood (underside of log). The hairs look very dark, but they are rather pale towards their tips. Hairs originate from dark brown, bulbous cells derived from brown, septate, somewhat sinuous hyphae in the excipulum. The hairs abruptly turn pale/almost hyaline and are septate, appearing rough on the surface and somewhat pointed (I am assuming these are the hairs towards the rim).
Ascus apparatus is hemi-amyloid (browninsh with Lugol, no pre-treatment). I think croziers are present (see photo). Paraphyses appear to be variable, from cylindrical and smooth to lanceolate and roughened. Spores 9-11 x 2-3 mcr, ellipsoid, somewhat pointed, becoming 1-septate, it seems.
I cannot recall heving seen this type of hairs in Lasiobelonium. And does any Trichopezizella species occur on wood?

Wonderful! Look in my folder Trichopeziza with brown lumps, and there atroviolacea.
Your hair photos were made in Congo? KOH? The lumps dissolve I remember.
I would be very glad to include your sample in my coming paper, but would need the collection data. Also ecological remarks would be welcome. Was it near a watercourse? A shady place? Whic trees around? Acidic?

Indeed wonderful! I did not use Congo Red - think it was in water, possibly KOH, but will check again.

A few more photos of the hairs and basal cells, in water. The pale parts of the hairs have some colourless lumps, but I do not see lumps on the brown parts, like in the collection from June: http://www.ascofrance.fr/forum/63911/dark-haired-stipitate-hyaloscyphaceae
These apothecia are sessile, unlike the prvious one. But they are still the same?

Ah, I forgot these stipitate were yours. Such a long stalk I never saw, so it seems you find the extrems :-)
If you see any microscopic difference, please tell me. But: The paraphyses of this species are warted. Is this the case in your new one? I did not see clearly. Your phase contrast is a bit unfortunate regarding cell contents, but warts on paraphyses it should show well.

I see blunt warts of variable size on many of the lanceolate paraphyses. They appear to detach to some degree and float around in the medium after squashing. Do you agree that these photos show the warts?

Thanks! Yes, not the big drops but the rough surface is visible for some paraphyses.
