Mellitiosporiella?

Hi!
I am wondering if this is Mellitiosporiella sp. in your key, Zotto (Key to the genera Phragmiticola, Propolidium, Propolis (= Propolomyces) and Mellitiosporiella, the broad-spored taxa of propoloid fungi (Marthamycetaceae, H.O. Baral, Jan. 2015). Spores are 12-14 x 4 microns, 3-septate. Asci 8-spored. I see no IKI reaction. All micros in water, except the last (Lugol).

Re : Mellitiosporiella?
Yes, the genus seems correct. You must look at the asci for a thickened apical and lateral wall. Maybe this is overmature? The colour does not fit M. pulchella. Did you compare the brick-red species of Eugene Popov in my key?

Re : Mellitiosporiella?
Yes, I compared with Popovs brick red species. This is no doubt the same species which I posted two years ago:
That specimen was sent to Jason Karakehian in 2018. In June this summer he wrote: "I am busy sequencing more genes for my doctoral dissertation work here at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign". In January 2019 he told me he was to receive more material from Popov. I haven't followed up since this summer. I assume you know more than me about his work.
Anyway, I will have second look at the ascus walls. Cheers!

Re : Mellitiosporiella?
I di not remember your previous case. But the colour is not so bright as in Eugene's.

Re : Mellitiosporiella?
Hi Edvin, Zotto and AscoFrance forum. Edvin, this looks like the material that you sent me in 2019. I also have what appears to be the same from Eugene Popov. I am working on these right now and I will have a preliminary phylogeny by the end of the year. It has been difficult to get sequence from both specimens. The material that I have from Eugene is senescent and in both specimens I think that the pigments are interfering with PCR, but I do have some sequence from both so far.

Re : Mellitiosporiella?
Ah this is great, Jason!
Looking forward to your phylogeny, and hopefully we can start a bit the project next year.
