I cannot help - especially the microscopic structures do not look much fungal to me. And the macroscopy could fit with a myxobacterium (?).

I had never heard of Myxobacteria. It is very interesting! I just watched an old documentary on YouTube that showcases this type of organization.

You're welcome.  A similar one showed up on Aesculus bark in moist chamber here today.  First time I've seen it.
