Hello,
Found by Willy Heimeriks on 27-04-2019, The Netherlands, on Typha latifolia.
Could this be Niesslia exosporioides?
Asci: 8-spored
Sporesize: 10.9-10.9-11.7 x 1.7-1.9-1.9 µm
I see there is also a Niesslia typhae (Fig. 14)
Greetings, Riet

Re : Niesslia exosporioides?
Hello Riet,
I notice your link to my forum posting for a sample of a Niesslia sp., which I found growing on Typha latifolia in the United Kingdom.
I posted my sample to Walter Gams so that he could study it and he concluded that it was almost certainly a species of Niesslia new to science. During email correspondence with Walter Gams, I did agree a provisional Niesslia typhae spec. nov. with him.
Unfortunately, he was never able to work on describing this sample, due to lack of a budget for work on this genus.
Regrettably, he is no longer alive.
Unless anyone else is able to create a species description for this taxon, it will remain undescribed.
With Best Wishes,
Peter Thompson.

Re : Niesslia exosporioides? => Niesslia spec.
Niesslia typhae does appear to have been validly published:
If Peter has not been informed of this - or been sent a copy of the relevant publication - Mycological Progress 18(1-2):5-76 that seems a bit direspectful.
Perhaps if he contacts the publishers they would be able to correct this oversight.

Indeed not very respectful ....
Thank you for your information Chris!
So the Dutch find could be Niesslia typhae?

Re : Niesslia exosporioides? => Niesslia spec.
Hello Riet and Chris,
I had no idea that the late Walter Gams' outstanding work on Niesslia had been completed and published earlier this year.
If it is believed that I am entitled to receive a copy of the publication, I shall investigate.
Riet - Once a copy of this document published by Springer becomes available, it will then be possible to compare your material with the information published.
Chris - Thanks for looking into this. I notice that Niesslia typhae is a blue entry in Index Fungorum. I wonder if work is complete on its creation as a new taxon?
Thank You,
With Best Wishes,
Peter.

Re : Niesslia exosporioides? => Niesslia spec.
Dear Peter,
This paper was published posthumously. Walter Gams passed away almost two years before. I think, to inform you was simply forgotten by the co-authors who finished the publication. I will send you a copy of this paper.
Best regards
Martin
