orange granular anamorph
Ethan Crenson, 27-09-2017 03:53
In New York City on well rotted wood.  Orange masses of conidiospores in clusters from 2-4mm wide.  Conidiospores with thick walls, mostly globose, but also ellipsoid, from 37 - 49.5µm in diameter, or about 32-54.5 x 34.5-42µm (when ellipsoid).  Any ideas about what this could be?  Many thanks in advance.

Re : orange granular anamorph
I once found something similar that was determined as a strange algae - forgotten the name

Re : orange granular anamorph
Interesting!  I am not at all familiar with algal morphology, but I was interpreting the "flange" at the base of the cell in the middle of this picture (yellow arrow) as a bud scar where a conidiospore broke off.  Could it be something else?

this is Sphaerosporium lignatile, it is a fungi, however all my attempts to culture it failed for some reason.
