Hamatocanthoscypha blanc sur cône pourri d'épicéa (Picea abies)
Bernard CLESSE, 05-10-2016 22:32

Bernard

On the rotten spruce cone whereabouts Hamatocanthoscypha uncipila and the Ombrophila, there was a small white asco abundant that Timo Kosonen asked me to look.

I am pretty sure it is Hamatocanthoscypha uncipila, at an earlier stage? Microscopy in any case is identical!

a) spores shaped menhir (narrowly oval-subfusiformes), with 0-2 microguttules: 7-8,5x2-3
b) paraphyses threadlike, less refractive to content that Hamatocanthoscypha uncipila
c) hooked hairs at the top

Zotto, Timo, what do you think?

For conincola I have a folder Pinus, Nov.-May, because I earlier noticed that white apos on Pinus appear mainly in spring, whil white apos in Picea occurred only in autumn (Aug.-Dec.). Now whether this was accident or not I do not know.

H. uncipila I had only 2x on Pinus and only once documented (Hamatocanthoscypha uncipila, 13.X.03), with a rather long stalk.

Your micros here are from the white one?

Well, I can't point out any big differences in microphotos between the yellow and the white other than the colour and its origin. But white is atleast not laricionis. Our recent collection was very similar with yellow uncipila and white one. Identification was based on Seppo's drawings ("conincola"). The collection site was loaded with spruce cones with mainly white Hamatocanthoscypha on them. One or two cones had both on them and the color was always either or, never in between. Thinking back, maybe I should have made more collections at the same site... sequences will tell, I guess. Thanks Bernard, and keep this in mind! -no collections from Pinus / Spring so I don't dare to comment that one!
