Ascomycete on an old wood stair
Lepista Zacarias, 14-08-2015 00:00
Dear all,
I would like to classify the ascomycete growing in an old portable wood stair. Here are some of its features:
- Apothecia rounded, black, less than 1 mm in diameter;
- Asci 8-spored, up to 100 x 15 um;
- Spores hialine, coiled in ascus, multi-septate (up to 10 septa), with dimensions
(28.5) 30.6 - 38.3 (39.4) x (6.8) 6.9 - 8.5 (9.3) um
Q = (3.6) 3.9 - 5 (5.7) ; N = 26, Me = 34.4 x 7.8 um ; Qe = 4.4;
- Paraphysis anastomosed at the apices with a bluish-black colour;
- All parts I-.
Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
zaca

Re : Ascomycete on an old wood stair
Hi Dirk,
In fact, it seems well established in human environments.
Thanks for the help,
Yours,
zaca

Patellara atrata or a very closely related species. In the living state I would see more clear, although the blueish colour tells for my P. "crassispora".

In which region did you collect this?

Hi Zotto,
Thanks for the comment.
This material is from Lourinhã, Portugal (west -center coast). It was analyzed just after being collected. What do you see more clear?

Re : Ascomycete on an old wood stair
The oil drops in the spores tend to be multiguttulate in crassispora but are always a few large in atrata.

Maybe the drought was so long that the fungus did not survive? Or you should test younger apothecia. If you place the piece under water for a minute and then let it dry for a while, the apos will be imbibed and you will perhaps find also living ones.

Thanks, Zotto.
I will try it next week (I'm travelling now) and post new results, if anything different.
Best regards,

Re : Ascomycete on an old wood stair
yes it was this rope, with various ascos.... Orbilia aristata the most frequent.

Re : Ascomycete on an old wood stair
I followed Zotto recommendation to try to observe some living spores, but it seems that it doesn't worked. I upload a new photo with spores inside the asci, all seeming to be dead.

Re : Ascomycete on an old wood stair
Thanks, Zotto, for confirmation.
By the end of the week I will return to the place and will collect another sample.
