Hydropisphaeria sp.

Hi all:

I found this ascomycete growing on stems of Equisetum arvense.
Perithecia size diameter is 200-230um. They are superficial, on a subiculum of hyphae; very easily removable. Color orange. When drying takes on a darker color and takes shape apotecioide.

The reaction is negative both KOH and the lactic acid.
Spores I see them smooth (I made stains with CB and RC and I have not seen any trace of ornamentation).
With the documentation that I have, I understand that this is Hydropisphaeria, and the key I have come to H.arenula, but the spore size would be too large.
That think?

regards
Susana

Re : Hydropisphaeria sp.
Yes I also think it is H. arenula. When I wrote with Christian the paper on Ijuhya equiseti-hyemalis, we treated also this species.

Spore size fits well. In H.B. 8622b, e.g., I measured 13.5-)16.5-#18-21#(-22.5) x 4.3-5.2(-5.8) µm

I also revised the type of Nectria equiseti-hiemalis showing spores in KOH (12-15-)16-22 x (3.2-)3.5-3.7(-4.2) µm. We confirmed its synonymy with H. arenula.

Do you have my paper? It is in Österr. Z. Pilzk. 17 (2008). I can send you a pdf.

Hi Zotto,

Thanks for the confirmation.
No, did not have the paper you mention, but I've seen that is available on the red and I've downloaded. Now I'll have a look.

Un saludo
