Possibly an immature Myxomycete? Physarum gyrosum or maybe a Didymium. It looks like the remains of a plasmodium, especially on the leaf.

Yes, I think Physarum gyrosum is probably correct. Martin and Alexopoulos say that P. gyrosum is most common in greenhouses in western Europe but that is common in the eastern Unite States on stems and foliage of garden and crop plants. All that sounds exactly right for your material.
