Scutellinia
Yatsiuk Iryna, 05-09-2014 16:12
Yatsiuk IrynaHi!
There is a Scutellinia on wood, which seems not to be usual S.crinita.
Spores 16,0-18,34*9,6-10,9, ornamented with isolated warts.
Hairs up to 200 um, with 1, 2, 3 or 4 routs at the base.
With Schumacher key I got S. umbrorum, but I've never seen this species.
Could you tell your opinion please?

Irina

Re : Scutellinia
Hello Irina

For S.crinita you should find hairs measuring more than 1000 microns; if not for the rest of your description it seems to fit. Try if you can measure other hairs.
For S.umbrorum warts are isolated, higher and wider.

Re : Scutellinia
Adio Irina,

In my opinion, with these photos, it's not possible to have hairs at 200 µm. Here, you have hairs > 1000 x 40 µm. Sure. Compare to the spores in your third photo.
Sporal ornementation seems to be bizarre with this collection, perhaps not mature... ?
Could you send me some apothecia ?
Macroscopic view seems to be crinita but your sporal ornementation not corresponding, but it's not corresponding to umbrorum too !

Not possible to say more with informations we have,

Amically,
Beñat

Re : Scutellinia
Hello, Benat,
Thank you for answer.
Now I see hair measurements are incorrect... I will re-measure them.
However, I have seen spores of S.crinita many times, but in this specimen spores look like pretty much different - covered with isolated warts of varying size.

Of course I will send you some apothecia. Maybe it is just immature S.crinita, but I don't want to miss something interesting:)

If you don't mind, I'll send one more Scutellinia, which seems to be unusual.

With best regards,
Irina

Re : Scutellinia
Hi Michel,
Thank you for the answer.
Yes, hairs seems to fit S.crinita.
But I have never seen such spore ornamentation in S.crinita. Usually it looks like elongated ribs accompanied with rather small warts, but in this one I've seen only warts and they are higher and sometimes wider than usually - near 1 um high and some are 2-3 um in diam. Unfortunately I can't make better photo of them(

With best regards,
Irina

Adio Irina,

No problem, send the others Scutellinias in the same pocket if you want.

Read you later,
Beñat
