Literature request, Barr 1990, Melanommatales
Eduard Osieck, 13-06-2014 14:54
Can somebody provide pages 40-55 from
Barr 1990. Melanommatales (Loculoascomycetes). - North American Flora, ser. II, 13: 1-129?

This deals with the genus Karstenula.

I found a 3- to 5 -septate muriform spored pyreno on Syringa. It fits quite well with Petrak's desciption of K. ligustrina (Ligustrum belongs to the same plant family as Syringa), but it would be useful to exclude the Karstenula species described by Barr.

Thank you Martin for sending the paper. And Jo for the offer to send it.

According to the Karstenula key of Barr the best match for my find is K. rhodostoma but that species has a "rosy red" apex (dark in my find) and shorter asci. Interestingly Petrak notes in his description of K. ligustrina the similarity with K. rhodostoma. On the basis of the missing reddish colouring of the apex and the different spore morphology he considered K. ligustrina as different and described it as a new species.
