Pinkish asco on incubated wood from a Freshwater stream
Francois Guay, 26-02-2025 03:28
Francois GuayHi, I found this pinkish ascomycete on incubated wood from a freshwater stream. Does anyone know what species it might be?

Here is the iNat link for photos and microscopy: https://www.inaturalist.ca/observations/263113852

-Microscopy in water and last 2 photos in IKI
- Spores 6,05-8,04 x 1,64-2 microns

Thank you
François Guay

This is an Orbilia species

Based on spore orientation (lower spores inverted) and apo colour and habitat (running water) I suggest this to be Orbilia rosea (the sibling O. luteorubella tends t have orange apos). The anamorphs are very different (Anguillospora vs. Helicoon, resp.), but to find them in a collection is a rare case.

Thank you both, Zotto and Nicolas. I compared and everything seems to align perfectly with Orbilia rosea. Your help is greatly appreciated!
