Cenangiopsis (?) on Sambucus nigra.
Mirek Gryc, 21-04-2021 19:51
Hello everyone
I found a collection of months ago (March 23). They only emerged from under the melting snow. Ascomata was old and destroyed so I could not even specify the shape of spores.
I kept them alive until today. Only one young Ascomata and a few anamorf have grown, so I could do some photos.
Some photos also made of old material.
I'm not even sure if this is Ceniengiopsis?
Any hints are welcome.
Greetings

Re : Cenangiopsis (?) on Sambucus nigra.
The asci with clavate spores and ascoconidia are clearly a Helicogonium! The apothecia remind me of a Godronia. Were there no old asci with amyloid ring? Helicogonium is always inamyloid.

The sllipsoid spores I cannot interpret. The anamorph could be an Ascocoryne?

There is one collection of a Helicogonium in Godronia. See my 7e Phacidiales folder.

Hi Zotto
You probably are right, but I am wondering a small amount of Ascospores (?) In ASCI. In my ASCI it was usually four Ascospores.
I did not notice the reaction to the iodine, both in old and in young Ascomata. Also after pre-treatment in Koh.
I think that from this material I have now, nothing will be determined. If I do not forget, I will visit them in autumn. The place is very well known and often visited.
I keep the substrate still alive but if it's so badly covered by Helicogonium, I will not be able to get anything better.
Ellipsoidal spores come from anamorph, shown in the fourth picture (series posted above)
I place a few more photos.
The first five made immediately after harvest.
Four next, with Ascomata who has grown at my home.
Thank you for your comment.
greetings
Mirek

Re : Cenangiopsis (?) on Sambucus nigra.
Woww! I overlooked the 4-spored asci, and now I also see that they are very long! I never saw such a Helicogonium, it is obviously a new species.

And the host would fit a genus such as Godronia with long asci too.

So this specimen should not be thrown away.

One day someone will succed with a sequence of a Helicogonium in order to show how it is related.
