Is this a fungal anemorph?
Jennifer Fiorentino, 23-11-2021 15:26
First I supsected this was a slime mould but slime mould experts did not agree. This was found on dead bark of a tree of unknown species in the Mediterranean at sea level. Id this the asexual phase of a fungus with its conidia? Any suggestions what it could be please?

Re : Is this a fungal anemorph?
Take a look at Stilbella, a Nectria-anamorph.
Ciao

Re : Is this a fungal anemorph?
Hi Jennifer,

i think it could be Gracilistilbella clavulata.
You can compare with this:

Re : Is this a fungal anemorph?
Hi Thorben

Many thanks for taking the time to comment. It surely looks similar. However on re-examining my specimen I could not find a rough stalk with hyphae. Also I seem to be missing the fuzzy yellow structure depicted in your photos. So maybe it could be some other species of Gracilistilbella? I attach a close photo of stalk.

Re : Is this a fungal anemorph?
Hi Jennifer,

Now that was just a guess and I lack experience with this genus. The find at that time was confirmed to me by Keith Seifert.
Of course, another species is also possible.
What does the KOH reaction look like with your finding ?
And do you know this work here:
Seifert, K.A. (1985). A monograph of Stilbella and some allied hyphomycetes.
You can dowload the pages here:

Re : Is this a fungal anemorph?
Many thanks for your suggestions and tips. Since I am not a mycologist myself I will pass on this info and my photos to a person who might be in a better position to ID this problematic fungus.
