Anamorph?
Carmel Sammut, 09-02-2015 18:25
Found these perithecia-like structures on Quercus ilex seed pods. The blackish spots are about 200µm in diameter. I could not find any structures (asci or paraphysis) and a large number of what look like spores popped out from the structures. Found on 29/1/15 Buskett, Malta.
The 'spores' do not appear to show any ornamentation with lactophenol CB and the size was 26.6 - 28.9 (31) x 15 - 16.2µm Me = 27.8 x 15.5 µm ; Qe = 1.8
I suspect it is an anamorph but have no idea what it could be.

Re : Anamorph?
Hi Carmel,

It could be a Lasiodiplodia species, please check for old two-celled, brown and usually striated spores. If they are present, you have a Lasiodiplodia specimen, which are very common on pods and seeds.
All the best,
Dartanha

Re : Anamorph?
Thank you Dartanha.
Initially I did not find any 2 cell spores.
This morning I checked again and I found some as you described.
