Hello,
Found by Laurens van der Linde, on Berberis vulgaris
Could this be Ceuthospora mahoniae?
The size of the conidia doesn't quite fit, 13.6-16.4 x 2.3-2.4 µm
This species in Microfungi on Land Plants, page 162, under Mahonia (Oregon Grape) = family Berberidaceae.
Ellis & Ellis: "Conidiomata multiocular, black, with a central pore. Conidia hyaline, 10-14 x 1.5-2. On dead leaves, Mar.-Apr."
Greetings, Riet

Re : Ceuthospora mahoniae
Hello Riet
There are many problems with these "Coelomycetes" and it is often not easy to assign every collection to a reliable name.
One problem is that in the past form-species occurring on different host genera or families were often considered to be different species, even if morphology was not very different. How many "good" Ceuthospora spp, there are is therefore uncertain. What is needed is molecular work to sort out the actual different taxa, and then hopefully morphological characters to differentiate them for field workers will emerge.
I'm attaching the relevant page from W.B. Grove's "Stem & Leaf Fungi"; he described Ceuthospora mahoniae and this will have been where Ellis and Ellis got those conidial measurements from. In my experience Grove's measurements are fairly reliable. I would record this as Ceuthospora cf. mahoniae Grove.
Hope that helps a little bit
Chris
