Saccobolus verrucisporus/pseudobeckii
Stefan Jakobsson, 18-05-2021 14:56
Hi,

I found a Saccobolus on moist dung of Capreolus capreolus (or Odocoileus virginianus?) in Southern Finland. The spores are ornamented with coarse isolated warts, ornamentation not above 1 µm. The spore size is 13.6 - 15.0 × 6.0 - 6.6 µm and the spore cluster 32.0 - 35.6 × 10.2 - 12.2 µm. At first I identified it as Saccobolus verrucisporus but then i found S. pseudobeckii which seems to be an even better match. The excipulum cells are more or less globose with a diameter of 7.5-14 µm.

I would be grateful for opinions on this one.

What a coincidence, I just finished the study of a Saccobolus growing on dung of roe deer, and this is S. verrucisporus.

Re : Saccobolus verrucisporus/pseudobeckii
Thank you! So then also verrucisporus has subglobose excipular cells, right?

Yes, and the marginal cells are more hyphoid with a clavate terminal cell.
