Malcolm GreavesI tentatively identified this find as Scutellinia kerguelensis before I read on this site that it is rarely found on wood.
The spores were 22.7 x 16.5um
The hairs maximum 640 x 37
The ascus 280 x 19.5
Your thoughts would be welcome
Thanks
Malcolm

Re : Scutellinia
Adio Malcolm,

It's difficult to see sporal ornementation on your photos (too little). Perhaps, S. olivascens...
Be careful, S. kerguelensis is a species with a lot of interpretations.
Here, in my opinion, S. kerguelensis isn't possible. But work is on course about this (typus, collections from austral territories, from South of Chile and South Africa...) and actually, it's difficult to discuss about limits of this species and geographic position in Europe.

Re : Scutellinia
Hi Malcolm,

your finding remembers me on S. nigrohirtula, which we had very often the last weeks. It grows on very rotten decorticated coniferous wood, which are soaked and partly sticked in wet soil.

Perhaps you can compare your ascomycetes findings also with our findings on my website (link is given on this page, funghiparadise).

regards,
björn
