Dear collegues,today I found one apothecium of a brown ?Ciboria with four-spored asci.
Spores are 9-11 x 4,5-4,8 µm, no oil content.
Asci 75-80 x 6-7 µm, with crouiers, porus reaction faintly blue (IKI 1)
Excipulum textura globulosa.
The Apothezium was seated directly on a blackend tiny twig of Alnus, lying in the mud. There was no sclerotium.
The stipe was quite thick and the surface was a bit furfuraceous. Microscopically there were tufts of roundish cells on the stipitipellis.
The cup looked like a nail head.
I have no more informations, as the fruitbody vanished during examination ....
Anyone an idea though?

I would suggest there was a small black sclerotium in the mud - compare Sclerotinia capillipes.

Hello,
I was thinking of that too, but I took the specimen with the twig and I examined it under the dissecting microscope - it was fully attached to the twig and there was no sclerotium, also not inside the wood.
Moreover, I know capillipes with a thin stipe which is sometimes bent, and the stipe is smooth. In my collection the stipe was thickset and furfuraceous and there were tufts of globose cells like caulocystidia.

I excluded acerina because the spore width was only 4,5-4,8 µm and acerina should have broader spores
otherwise it would fit quite well.

Hello,
I checked the capillipes folder and I think now that Lothar had the correct idea. There are fotos matching exactly my findig from today, especially what concerns that nail-like habit. the microscopical details fit well. So the sclerotium might have been indeed overlooked, though I did really care not to overlook it .....
