Ascobolous furfuraceus?
Joop van der Lee, 18-01-2019 23:00
Found on cow dung.

Apothecia at maturity surrounded by a ring of swollen cells.
Asci: 8 nspored; 217-225x30.0-31.4 um.
Spores: biseriate; 23.75-24.75x10.9-11.4 um; ornamented with mostly longitudinal striae, with unilateral substance.
Paraphyses: simple, septate, top slightly thickend.
Swollen cells do not know if they are part of hyphae.

Joop,

I think it is A. furfuraceus like you suggest. Check if the wall is blue in Melzer.

Re : Ascobolous furfuraceus?
I checked the colouring of the asci walls, but only very young asci were coloured in blue, the more mature asci did not.
Asci that did not have mature spores coloured the tips containing particles in purple, asci without particles did not colour at all.
Most of the very young asci coulered the tips in green/blue.

I checked if the Melzer was not too old on Saccobolus citrinus but as you can see the asci coloured blue.
